Hill of Strani

An important monument of the island is the one on Strani Hill at the opposite of Bohali where you may see the bust of Dionysios Solomos. On this quiet hillside beneath the trunk of a tree and watching the progress of the siege of Messologgi, the national poet of Greece, wrote the hymn to freedom, a great poem with 158 verses of which the first two are used as lyrics for the national anthem.
